Barbara Kruger: Pictures & Words

For digital streaming licenses and institutional use, please contact [email protected].

Barbara Kruger is one of the most highly successful, yet controversial, artists working today. Her art blends the pragmatic world of advertising and graphic design, a highly developed aesthetic sense and a razor sharp political viewpoint that touches on such themes as patriarchy and our consumer culture. Seen on this program is Kruger’s 1987 show at the Mary Boone Gallery and her 1994 show that includes a powerful and piercing soundtrack. Included are interviews with art critic Peter Schjeldahl and Kate Linker, author of Love for Sale, a recent book on Barbara Kruger.
