For digital streaming licenses and institutional use, please contact [email protected].

This program covers the work of John Ahearn and Rigoberto Torres, two artists who make work based on plaster casts. Since the early Eighties, John and Robert have made collaborative painted plaster portraits of friends and children in their South Bronx and East 100th Street neighborhoods. Seen on this program is John Ahearn’s 2000 exhibition at the Alexander and Bonin Gallery in Chelsea and work by Rigoberto Torres shown in 1995 at the Brooke Alexander Gallery in SOHO. Also included is a visit to their East 100th Street studio where we see the fascinating process of making a plaster cast. In lengthy interviews, the artists describe their working process, ideas about art and views on collaboration.
