Richard Phillips' hyper-realist paintings of supermodels, celebrities, and other icons reflect on the public's adoration of the sublime. Based on photographs and fashion magazines etc, his exquisitely detailed paintings of icons like Lindsay Lohan, Sasha Grey, and Adriana Lima have both provoked and been much admired.
Seen is Richard Phillips’s 2012 exhibition at the Gagosian Gallery in New York. Included are paintings and films with Lindsay Lohan, Sasha Grey and Adriana Lima. An interview with the artist is included. Gianni Jetzer, curator and director of the Swiss Institute in New York and art critic Linda Yablonsky discuss Phillips’s work.
